Patra looks back at another memorable twelve months
The pace of life is becoming ever more frenetic, news stories lasting hours before they drop from our view. Often covering less than upbeat topics, they can easily drown out the good news snippets. So as part of the festive season we’d like to share some of the highlights of 2014. Take a break, kick your feet back, and enjoy some good memories.
Bundles of joy
One of the happiest highlights of last year, especially for those in the Royal family, was the birth of Prince George, who has gone on to become a very cute and much photographed baby. Just over a year later, in September 2014, William and Kate announced they are expecting a second child, bets are now being placed on possible names and gender! Prince Albert II and Princess Charlene of Monaco also had some joyful news – with the birth of twins.
And the stork has been busy at the homes of other famous couples as well – especially in the world of sport. Sir Chris Hoy welcomed a baby boy, Jessica Ennis-Hill has given birth to her first child – named Reggie, and Roger Federer’s wife Mirka gave birth to the couple’s second set of twins!
This Morning presenter Holly Willoughby has welcomed a baby boy and called him Chester William. And Simon Cowell became a father for the fist time, named Eric after Cowell’s father.
Sporting greats
2014 has been a good year for sport, and one that saw the UK play an important role once again. This year Glasgow hosted the Commonwealth games and Yorkshire was the venue for the start of the tour de France for the first time ever. Racing driver Lewis Hamilton became The F1 World Championship, making him the first British double champion since Jackie Stewart. England didn’t perform at their best in FIFA world cup in Brazil this year, which saw Germany victorious, but some great matches were played.
Star brides
There was one wedding in 2014 that, in terms of media coverage, outfit changes, and celebrity attendance, overshadowed the rest. On the 27th September, George Clooney married Amal Alamuddin in Venice. She sported some stunning dresses, but for the main event she opted for a gorgeous gown by Oscar de la Renta. And ten years after becoming a couple, Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie were married in a quiet ceremony in their estate in France. Beautiful Welsh opera singer Katherine Jenkins also got married, and celebrated her wedding at Hampton Court Palace.
Sad farewells
This was also the year that we had to say goodbye to some of the world’s great film legends. Child star Shirley Temple, iconic American actor Eli Wallach, comic stars Robin Williams and Joan Rivers, and actor and director Richard Attenborough all sadly passed away.
Seasons Greetings from all of us at Patra and best wishes for 2015.
