Look ahead to brighter days and a more colourful wardrobe with our guide to Spring / Summer 2015
Although it’s still cold and grey outside, the days are beginning to get longer, and thankfully it will be spring before we know it. And what better way to brighten up a gloomy day than by looking at what’s in store for Spring / Summer 2015. With a veritable rainbow of trends set to hit the shops, next season’s palettes and styles are bound to put a spring in your step.
A wardrobe must-have
A pair of silk trousers are the perfect Spring / Summer look. These cool classics feel amazing and look so chic. Ideal for your holiday wardrobe, their soft pull-on waist adds comfort to this elegant piece. Stella McCartney featured gorgeous head-toe silk – wide legged pants matched with a simple and stunning silk blouse.
Mellow yellows
Silks look fabulous in creamy colours – another trend of next season. Calming hues like Mocha, Champagne and Malt all made an appearance. These work wonderfully combined together or as ideal partners for those brighter tones.
Green goddess
Think about a gorgeous aquamarine Mediterranean Sea, an olive grove and a lush leafy valley. Taking its inspiration from nature, this season’s greens are vibrant without looking artificial – reflecting the beauty all around us and bringing holiday memories into our everyday outfits. Ralph Lauren used soft Moss and Olive in his SS15 collection, producing a feminine military feel to these looks.
Cute culottes
At New York Fashion Week, designers such as J. Crew featured culottes. These wide-legged trousers, often knee-length creates the look of skirt, with a practical twist. It’s a great look to wear when out and about, producing a pretty silhouette. Creams, light blues and denims were the principle shades used here, and made this springtime look even more accessible.
Feeling blue
And it wasn’t just on culottes that blues were used – there were the stars of many a runway. Next season’s blues reflect every hue of the sky – misty morning ash greys, midday baby blue to dark night skies – these tones are easy to wear and quite timeless.
Button up
The catwalks of Altuzarra, among others, used this palette when featuring another upcoming trend – shirt dresses and overshirts, tailored and belted cotton dresses and shirts worn as tunics. This is a clean and fresh look, casual and cosmopolitan.
Swinging 70s
Elegant and pretty, nothing makes you feel more summery than a dress. The SS15 catwalks saw pure cottons and silks in flowing seventies loveliness. It’s a look that oozes happy and relaxed look and allows your skin to breathe. Tommy Hilfiger, Chanel and Henry Holland used floaty florals and frills to showcase this style.
Wearing them in another of this year’s colour trends – pinks – will make you feel even more feminine. From vibrant Paprika to delicate Hyacinth, these lovely shades make for a ladylike look.
Overshirts, floaty dresses and stunning silk all provide class and comfort. And the great news is that next season’s styles and colours are very wearable and easy to do well. There’s nothing too garish and the palettes really do mix and match effortlessly. So relax and get ready for a beautiful year ahead.
